ABOUT BIPEA

BIPEA is a European non-profit organization located in France. Gathering over 4,000 laboratories worldwide across 130 countries, it offers more than 220 regular proficiency testing programs.

CREATION OF BIPEA

In 1970, professional entities in the grain and milling sector, INRA (National Institute of Agronomic Research), and CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research) decided to create a permanent and autonomous structure. Its main missions are organizing interlaboratory comparison programs and providing technical assistance to laboratories. BIPEA was officially established on September 3rd, 1970. BIPEA’s founding members primarily consist of professional organizations in the sectors of production and storage (list of founding members).

BIPEA TODAY

When it was created, BIPEA included 60 laboratories and provided 8 proficiency testing programs in the fields of grains and milling.

In the early 1990s, BIPEA expanded its proficiency testing programs to include the fields of agri-food and contaminants. By the late 1990s, proficiency testing programs in the field of environment were also introduced.

In 2009, BIPEA innovated by creating PT programs in the field of cosmetics, particularly for sunscreen products. In 2020, BIPEA further expanded its offerings to the pharmaceutical market.

Today, BIPEA continues to grow internationally, increasing the number of participants in its proficiency testing programs.
